Evita In Concert

We were delighted to work alongside Lighting Designer Tim Deiling to provide a comprehensive lighting package for Evita in Concert at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The lighting package included; Robe BMFL Blade, Astera Titan Tubes & Prolights Lumipix 15IP LED Battens. Which, together made for a visually stunning production.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Evita returns to the West End this summer. In an all-star concert at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane, accompanied by the 30-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra (LMTO).

Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Disney’s Moana and star of The Little Mermaid Live, makes her West End debut in the title role of Evita. Alongside West End leading man Matt Rawle (Martin Guerre, Miss Saigon, Zorro) who returns to the role of Che. Jeremy Secomb (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera). Nathan Amzi (Heathers the Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar) and Emily Lane (Frozen The Musical) also joins.

Completing the cast is Lloyd Davies, Robin Kent, Emily Langham, Jasmine Leung, Amonik Melaco, Joseph Poulton, Agnes Pure and Sophie Sass.

Olivier Award-winner Bill Deamer (Follies, Top Hat, Cats) directs.

Kinky Boots Struts Back Into The West End

Kinky Boots the Musical in Concert at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Returning to the West End at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane for the first time since 2019. Kinky Boots is the exhilarating true story about a struggling shoe factory and Charlie Price who has reluctantly inherited his father’s factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. A show that will lift you higher than any platform boots!

Storm we pleased to supply both a Lighting Package & Production Management services for this special “in Concert” version at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Lighting Design was provided by Ben Cracknell as part of a series of concerts this summer. Ben made full use of our new Prolight’s Lumipix 15IP LED Batten‘s, alongside Robe Pointe‘s and traditional 2 Lite & 4 Lite Blinder‘s.

“It’s great to see our Lumipix 15IP Battens as part of Ben’s creative design. As well as our Pointe’s which continue to creat some great in-air effects and beams. It’s also brilliant to be able to have a show such as Kinky Boots, which can take full advantage of all the features in both fixtures. Especially in a venue like the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.” says Storm’s Rental Manager, James.

About The Show

Winner of six TONY awards and the Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 2016. Kinky Boots features a joyous score by Cyndi Lauper. As well as a hilarious, uplifting book by Harvey Fierstein.

Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business. Charlie finds inspiration in the form of the fabulous entertainer Lola. Together they work out what is best for both of them.

This summer, a performance of Kinky Boots the musical in concert will be coming to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. With Cedric Neal (Back To The Future, Motown), Joel Harper-Jackson (COCK, Kinky Boots UK Tour). As well as Courtney Bowman (Six, Legally Blonde) bringing the music alive with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra. This concert is sure to lift the spirits and have you dancing in the aisles.

Storm were delighted to put the final pieces in place for the much anticipated revival of Chess. Performed in Concert at London’s prestigeous Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Supplying Lighitng & Production Management services. Chess is the first in a series of concerts at the Theatre Royal this summer, as part of an exciting concert series.

With Lighting Design by Ben Cracknell, Chess the Muscial in Concert was a sellout success! The show featured our brand new Prolights Lumipix 15IP LED Batten‘s along side our Robe Pointe‘s. Take a look at some of the brilliant production shot’s from this special concert below.

About The Show

With music by ABBA legends Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and lyrics by the incomparable Sir Tim Rice. The iconic musical Chess returns to the West End for the first time since a limited run at the London Coliseum in 2018.

At the height of the Cold War, two chess masters meet in Bangkok to battle for the world championship. But their greatest contest is for the love of one woman. Telling a story of love and political intrigue. Set against the background of the Cold War in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Chess features an incredible score including classics such as “I Know Him So Well” and “One Night in Bangkok”.

Starring Samantha Barks (Frozen, Les Miserables), Hadley Fraser (City of Angels, Phantom Of The Opera), Joel Harper-Jackson (Cock, Kinky Boots), Frances Mayli McCann (Les Miserables, Evita), Ako Mitchell (Bonnie and Clyde, The Lion King). Alongside Craige Els (Matilda, Coronation Street) with the 50-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra accompanying.

HAIR at the London Palladium

HAIR at the London Palladium

Following on from a hugely successful limited production at Turbine on the Jetty last year. HAIR is one of the first performances at the Palladium to welcome a live audience back to the venue since the beginning of this year. Both feature a lighting design by Andrew Exeter. He was keen to work with Storm to provide the lighting and rigging equipment required for the production.

We worked closely with Andrew to bring this specially created concert version to life. Andrew was keen to bring the classic 60’s tungsten look and feel to the stage. Keeping inline with the shows 1960’s roots. He achieved this in the unique form of “PAR Trees”. These also helped to frame the performance space for the concert.

To work with the tungsten part of the design, Andrew took advantage of our recently added stock of Vari*Lite VL2600 Profile‘s. He also made great use of our SGM Q7‘s & ETC ColorSource Spot‘s to complete the design. This special concert version of HAIR was directed by Arlene Phillips.

“It is always a pleasure to work with Andrew, especially on productions like these. It’s an opportunity to create something more unique compared with traditional theatre shows. Andrew’s attention to detail and his ability to create special moments within the show are second to none. Seeing a show back in a theatre again with a live audience after so long has been brilliant. Along with everyone else in the industry, we are really looking forward to seeing the entertainment industry recover strongly over the next few months”. Says Storm’s Rental Manager, James.

In this specially produced concert version directed by Arlene Phillips. Get ready to groove to an infectiously energetic rock beat. With songs like Aquarius, Good Morning, Starshine, Hair, I Got Life, and Let The Sun Shine. Exploring ideas of identity, community, global responsibility and peace. Hair remains relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in a changing world.

Featuring a cast of well known West End Performers including, Layton Williams (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Rent), Nicole Raquel Dennis (Dear Evan Hansen, Waitress), Luke Bayer (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Tom Francis, Grace Mouat (SIX and & Juliet), Jodie Steele (Heathers and SIX), Matt Croke (Aladdin, Funny Girl) and Millie O’Connell (SIX and Rent).

1967 and HAIR‘s hippie-hood youngsters live as The Tribe, in the East Village of New York. Yearning to change the world, questioning authority and the American flag. They are wild, colourful, free, sexually liberated beautiful people who join in protest and song. All whilst under the shadow of the Vietnam War. Featuring classic hit songs: Aquarius, Let the Sun Shine In and Good Morning Star Shine. The story of youth and war still resounds throughout the world making this a topical musical for the millennial generation.

Storm were delighted to work with the teams at whynow and The Fifth to produce a new series highlighting new and upcomming artists by supplying lighting and rigging equipment. While there is now light at the end of the tunnel, music venues are still closed and the road to recovery for live music is slow and unsteady. The pandemic has served to highlight the need for new digital ways to find and support musicians, particularly emerging artists. This project aims to deliver that need by shining a spotlight on the stars of tomorrow.

The first series features exclusive performances by artists Ella Grace, Cheryll, Kimbo and Babeheaven. The Fifth’s Head of Music commented: ‘The response has been overwhelming; welcomed by artists, managers, agents and record labels alike. The series is about exploring the connection between the performer and the listener; something we’ve all been starved of this last year”.

Katherine Jenkins Christmas Spectacular

Storm were delighted to provide lighting equipment for this special Christmas concert film. Bringing with it some much needed festive cheer. Filmed live at the Royal Albert Hall, including additional locations around London’s Royal Albert Hall. The concert will be broadcast on ITV over the festive period and also available on Blu-ray and DVD. Find out more about the concert and see the trailer below.

Katherine Jenkins OBE returns to her all-time favourite venue with a unique and unforgettable Christmas musical to play in cinemas from 1 December. Bringing joy and festive celebrations to audiences around the world.

Katherine Jenkins: Christmas Spectacular sees the Welsh sensation perform seasonal favourites and carols with full nostalgic Hollywood musical glamour and wonder. The production was given unprecedented and exclusive access to the historic venue. It also marked the 50th time that Katherine has performed there.

The all-star cast includes beloved actors Vanessa Redgrave and Bill Nighy, operatic icon Sir Bryn Terfel, Italian Tenor Alberto Urso, American Broadway star Marisha Wallace, English National Ballet Lead Principal Erina Takahashi, the Royal Air Force Regiment Band among others.

“Every December I perform a Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall; it is one of the highlights of my year. Sadly, this year arts venues around the globe are facing challenges and traditional Christmas concerts and carol services are under threat. After the 16 concerts I gave from home during lockdown. I realised how music can bring people together so rather than leave audiences without. We took the challenge head-on and made a fully-fledged feature film. Using the spaces of the Royal Albert Hall and camera and story-telling techniques in ways never done before.”

Storm Creates Festive Magic on Screen

Storm supplies lighting and rigging equipment for a festive production series filmed in the heart of the West End at the Actors Church, Covent Garden.

The festive production is available to stream throughout the Christmas period on stream.theatre until the 1st January 2021. Featuring spectacular performances from West End stars including the entire cast of A Christmas Carol – The Musical.

Lighting Designer Andrew Exeter enlisted the support of Storm to provide lighting and rigging equipment for the production. “Storm were my first choice for equipment to use on this production. Knowing Storm hold a range of equipment for Film, TV & Broadcast. Straightaway I knew they were the perfect company to have onboard with this project. In addition, key to this production was Storm’s stock of ARRI SkyPanel‘s. The SkyPanels are an undeniably powerful and make lighting for camera stress free.” says Andrew.

Utilising equipment from our Film, TV & Broadcast catalogue we ensured Andrew had the best tools for the job. Ensuring he was able to produce a high quality production. “After what has been a devastating year for the Entertainment Industry. It was great to be able to help create some much needed festive spirit. Especially a production that can be enjoyed by people all round the world over the holiday season. Not only that, but the production is helping to raise money for both Shelter & Crisis charities. Both charities are do so much each year. In particular this year under even more challenging conditions this year due to the pandemic.” says Storm’s Rental Manager, James.

About the Show

Denise Welch will host a starry list of performers coming together for a filmed concert. We Need A Little Christmas, in support of Shelter and Crisis at Christmas. The concert will be filmed live at the Actors’ Church (St Paul’s Church) in London’s Covent Garden. With performances from Dame Maureen Lipman, Charlie Kristensen, Christine Allado, David Bedella, Kevin Clifton, Brenda Edwards, Sheila Ferguson, Amy Hart, Dom Hartley-Harris, Sophie Isaacs, Cassidy Janson, Lydia Lucy, Lee Mead, Peter Polycarpou, Jodie Prenger, Sharon Rose, Sally Ann Triplett and The Vivienne. Along with Brian Conley, Matt Jay-Willis, Lucie Jones, Jacqueline Jossa. Plus the cast of A Christmas Carol – The Musical and the West End Gospel Choir.

We Need A Little Christmas will be directed and staged by Michael Strassen. Musical direction by George Charter and production design by Andrew Exeter. We Need A Little Christmas is produced by Thomas Hopkins & Michael Quinn for Ginger Quiff Media and Guy Chapman.

Hair The Musical – An Outdoor Concert

Storm worked with Lighting & Video designer Andrew Exeter to realise a unique version of Hair. Bringing a special Outdoor Concert version of Hair The Musical. Part of the Turbine Theatre’s “On The Jetty” programme of summer events. The re-imagined concert version of Hair was produced by Paul Taylor-Mills.

Andrew’s approach to this design required additional steps when specifying equipment for this show. “As this production was completely open to the elements on the banks of the Thames. We had to make sure that we had equipment that could withstand whatever the British weather could throw at us. Especially in the summer! Storm’s stock of IP rated fixtures was a huge advantage for me when designing this show. I was able to make full use of both SGM Q7‘s and Studio COB Plus‘s and have the peace of mind that everything had the protection it needed.” says Andrew.

The Turbine Theatre announced a specially curated festival of live entertainment for all the family. Presented on a safe and socially distanced jetty next to the iconic Battersea Power Station

Arlene Phillips says “I am thrilled to be directing this small but mighty open air concert of Hair. Now more than ever we need music that lifts our spirits and feeds our souls to remind us that theatre is alive. I believe that a musical with a strong political message is important not just to give us hope. But to inspire a future generation.”
